The pianist and composer Perrine Mansuy is a musician with a classic vocational training (conservatory of Marseille). Very soon she turns towards jazz and its improvisations. In 1997 she recorded her first album “Autour de la lune” as a trio with the drummer Jean-Sébastien Simonoviez and the bassist Jacques Bernard. It was only in 2009 when she founded the quartet Vertigo Songs together with the singer Marion Rampal, the guitarist Remi Decrouy and the drummer Jean-Luc Di Fraya. As leader of that formation she explores and constructs her proper musical universe. The quartet has just published its album “ Vertigo Songs ”, which is a perfect illustration of the four inventive musicians and their musical imagination. From jazz to contemporary music, from ballads to electro-acoustic compositions, from pop to film songs (Hitchcock, Chaplin), their hybrid kind of music displays itself in a new form, or rather in a perpetual mutation of forms. Marion Rampal, who writes the lyrics to the songs, uses her voice to whisper, to imitate percussion, to produce sound effects and to create a melody at once. You can feel the magic in their music when the artists take you with them on a trip, a musical fairy tale. It is an innovative kind of music, enjoyable which, while listening to it, gives us the impression to live a dream from the realms of fantasy.
